Indiana Paintings buys, sells, and appraises American and European art with an emphasis on the art of Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, and Kentucky. We specialize in artists who were involved in the Brown County artist colony, Richmond School, the Hoosier Group, the Hoosier Salon, Indiana Dunes, and other historical Indiana art associations. Some important artists from these groups include Louis Oscar Griffith, Adolph Shulz, Ada Shulz, Glen Cooper Henshaw, George Herbert Baker, John Elwood Bundy, Maude Eggemeyer, T.C. Steele, Otto Stark, William Forsyth, and Frank Virgil Dudley. Many of these artists studied in Europe under Impressionist masters and intentionally chose to return to Indiana to paint its landscapes and people. We believe Indiana's art heritage is something of which to be proud. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have an interest in collecting Indiana art. Our gallery is conveniently located within the Brown County Antique Mall in Nashville, Indiana. We can also travel to you when necessary. |

Chris first learned about early Indiana art in 1995 when his family moved to Nashville, Indiana and purchased the Brown County Antique Mall. “When I was home from college, I would visit the Brown County Art Gallery, Brown County Art Guild, and local galleries, seeing and learning as much about early Indiana artists as I could. I didn’t have any money then to buy art, but I did a lot of dreaming. I’d spend my summers and vacations working at the antique mall, reading about antiques and art, helping customers, and trying to spot bargains.” After studying in Europe, and working for a year in St. Petersburg, Russia as a business professor, Chris returned to Southern Indiana to attend Indiana University and get more involved in the antiques business. “I enjoyed antiques, especially pottery and items from Russia, but what I really wanted to be was an art dealer.” Eventually, the largest part of his business became art sales. That was when he decided to start Indiana Paintings. Today he is on the Board of Directors of the Brown County Art Gallery and the Brown County Antique Mall. |
